1977 - A group of 8-10 women began
meeting regularly in Angels Camp. These women held
monthly
potlucks and self awareness workshops as well as self help
seminars all geared
towards
women's issues.
1978 - The non-profit group " Mountain
Sister's Collective" was formed and it's first project
was a
childcare resource and referral program...it didn't take off
because the county
didn't
recognize them as being legitimate.
The
"Mountain Sister's Collective" then became part of the "Mountain Family
Service Agency".
1979 - A 24-hour hotline was created for
rape victims and battered women. A small grant allowed
a part-time
office worker to be hired. The county now recognized the
program and allocated
"Presley
Funds" to the program.
1982 - The name was changed to Calaveras
Women's Crisis Line. Additional funding was obtained
and
services to women were expanded to include accompaniment and
peer counseling.
1983 - HRC became the parent
organization.
1990 - State funding was awarded and a
shelter was added to the program.
1994 - The name was changed to the HRC
Calaveras Women's Crisis Center.
1997 - The county obtained a CDBG grant
and the office building was built on county land.
2006 - The name was changed to the HRC
Calaveras Crisis
Center.
